Ruskin Bond was born in Kasauli, Himachal Pradesh, in 1934. In a writing career spanning close to fifty years, he has to his credit a large number of poems, essays, short stories and novels for adults as well as children. His writings include The Night Train at Deoli, Time Stops at Shamli, The Room on the Roof, Delhi is Not Far, A Flight of Pigeons and The Adventures of Rusty. He received the Sahitya Academy Award in 1993 and the Padmashree in 1999.
